These are not, and never were, forbidden. They are, in fact, considered valuable by the Church and constitute a part of Holy Tradition. Not being canonical does not equal being worthless or forbidden. The author of that book goodness only knows how he managed to be an archbishop with such ignorance of Church history really could do with actually learning rather more before attempting to teach others. I haven't looked at the site. I must admit that as the Bible was God inspired, and written by man, I have always found it sounded a little presumptuous to think that someone decided to leave 'bits' out.
Obviously, that comes from the pperception of a theologically pretty ignorant guy. But I have a niggling thought that the Bible may well have been tampered with and that is a thought that makes me uncomfortable. I'm not convinced that the canonical status of an early writing meant that the writings had restricted access. It may mean that the Christian groups would not care to preserve the writings of Marcion for example heretical writings or the writings of the Gnostics.

It seems that the existence of the Nag Hammadi library shatters such conspiracy theories. A4B4 Member. I think the value of this book lies in the non-Canonical texts themselves.

While it is great that this book is free, and so readily accessible, the books I've bought include more non-Canonical texts which have only recently been uncovered. You can find many of these online at Gospels. Although they only have a handful of non-Canonical gospels, they also have the translated fragments they've found mostly at Oxyrhyncus. As to the integrity of the non-Canonical texts, there are lots of non-Canonical texts, many of which came much later in time, as JamesThePersian mentioned.
However, some were around since "the beginning" so-to-speak, composed during the 1st century, about the same times as Matthew, Mark, and Luke. The Gospel of Peter and the Gospel of Thomas specifically come to my mind. However, these two were only recently discovered. Whereas I found the Gospel of Mary, for instance, somewhat discordant with what I had read in the canonized New Testament, what little we have of the Gospel of Peter seems to coincide at least as good as the Gospel of John.
The Gospel of Thomas, depending on your interpretation, may also seem consonant with the canonized New Testament. Ramacharaka Member.
Somewhat on this subject. A troubling question I have and a search I pursue is to find what happened to the words of Gods -Jesus' chosen 12 11 diciples. What do we have actually written or passed on from them. Paul was not one of these men yet he is the founder of the Christian church? They are somewhat historical fact. I'm not sure where I read that "these words and revelation are for the children yet to come". Maybe we are the children to come and this is why we now have so much more to read freely.
